FAQs

What is CrossFit?
Simply put, CrossFit is a strength and conditioning programme built on constantly varied, functional movements executed at relative high intensity’, that will improve the 10 recognised physical skills:
1. Endurance
2. Stamina
3. Strength
4. Speed
5. Power
6. Balance
7. Agility
8. Flexibility
9. Accuracy
10. Coordination
Simply put, this means that before your body gets used to the same movements (stimulus) we make your training broadly varied to keep it constantly challenging and effective.  This forces your body to adapt to the tasks at hand meaning changes in fitness can be observed more quickly. Functional movements are those which your body is designed to do and our goal is to get you results,in the gym that improve your life outside of the gym.  Weightlifting, rowing, running, kettle-bells and gymnastics are just a few of the things you can expect to find in our classes.  Intensity comes in a variety of forms including load (weight used) and the speed at which workouts are completed, but it is always relative to the individual and the beauty of CrossFit is that it enables all levels of athlete (yes, you are an athlete as soon as you join us) to take part in the same workouts.

Is CrossFit safe?
Yes.  With expert coaching from fully qualified trainers CrossFit is safe.
To ensure we keep our members safe we apply 3 basic principles when coaching:
1) Movement - Ensuring individuals move with good mechanics is our primary focus.  Moving well is the key to unlocking fitness and safeguarding against injury.
2) Consistency - We ensure that once the correct movement patterns have been learned they are then maintained over time and under fatigue.
3) Intensity - One athletes are competent at moving well with consistency whilst under fatigue they can then increase the intensity.  Intensity comes in all forms including speed, weight, and volume.
As with any sport  there is always an element of risk attached but through top quality coaching we will work with you to minimise these risks.
Do I have to be fit to start?

No! We hear this a lot and contrary to common belief, outside of the CrossFit community, you do not need to have a certain level of fitness before you start doing CrossFit.  CrossFit is universally scalable which means all movements and any of our workouts can be changed and adapted to suit ANY individual - from kids to grandparents and everyone in between, life long athletes to first time gym goers, sports professionals, individuals recovering from injury, adaptive athletes and those exercising on medical advice - CrossFit is for ANYONE!  If you have the want and the will power, you can leave the rest up to us!

Can I try it before I join?
Absolutely! We have weekly taster sessions available to book in to and they are totally FREE.  All you need to do is get in touch here (sue to insert link) and we can give you further details and get you booked in.

How do I get started?

Firstly, if you haven't done a taster session with us we recommend you do so get in touch. Following the taster session, or if you are keen to jump straight in, we will invite you along to a membership consultation, give you information about our facility, and get you booked on to the next Fundamentals course. The Fundamentals course runs over 2 weeks and is comprised of 6 sessions, each lasting an hour with no more than 4 people per course.  Each session will take you through the basic movements, teach you the principles of what we do and why we do it, and with no more than 4 per group there is plenty of 1-2-1 time with the coach.  Once the course is complete you are ready to get started in classes and start chasing those fitness goals!

What facilities do you have?

As well as the main class area, we have further training areas - Open gym for your own training outside of classes if you wish, and the Mezzanine which around a few classes can also be used for your own training and is equipped with plenty of gymnastic and CV equipment.  We also have changing rooms, showering facilities and a treatment room (with 2 Sport massage therapists available that can be booked). There is plenty of parking space available and for the warmer months we have an outside training area too!
